So nice to be loved

So Representative Robin Hayes thinks “liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”

Let’s take a look at that statement.

First of all, according to Representative Hayes all liberals are hateful. That’s a big statement right there. I wonder if he really believes that. Chances are that he’s just reflecting his own personal hatred toward people who are not like him.

Now, on to the good part. He’s saying that liberals are not real Americans. I have grown to really detest the concept of a real American. Everyone who says that seems to think that a real American is someone agrees with their way of thinking. Recently a senator wanted to go through the ranks and sift out the real Americans much like Senator McCarthy some time ago during the Red Scare. I thought we would have learned our lesson. But then I guess not. We have people who honestly think that Obama is a terrorist. Funny how many of those people think are in the Congress. Or maybe, and I know this is going to be shocking, they just have different ideas! Oh no! We can’t have that!

On to the three categorical entries for real Americans: work, achieve, and believe in God. So, according to Representative Hayes the liberals hate people who work. Really? So they hate themselves? Or is it that there is this massive number of people who don’t work, and they’re all liberals? Achieve? Ok, so liberals don’t achieve either? Well, if by achievement you mean getting somewhere by violating the things that the liberals believe in, I could understand that. If your brand of achievement means to rob, exploit, cheat, and harm many for your own benefit I’d gladly say that I hate everyone in that category. But that’s not the only kind of achievement, and I don’t think that was the kind that Representative Hayes was thinking about. So once again he’s accusing the liberals of never achieving anything and being bitter because of it. Nice assessment of humanity!

And on to the last, and my favorite. Representative Hayes is trying to pass off liberalism as Atheism. Now think about this for a moment. Liberals, nearly half of the country, are Atheists? Why, that would be quite impossible given that Atheists only made up about 13% of the country’s population in 2000. I can’t imagine it has gotten that much bigger since then. 25% maybe? A possible number given the drastic increases in atheism, but certainly not the entire liberal population of the country.

So what’s he trying to do? He’s trying to say that the other side of the political arena are a bunch of lazy, good for nothing, godless heathens. Is this true? No. Is what he said hateful? Certainly.

But there’s even something worse. When first called in to account for his words he denied them. Flat out. No question. He had said no such thing. That was until the tape appeared.

You know what that makes Representative Robin Hayes?

A liar.

Plain and simple. Isn’t that nice? Is that the 11th Commandment? “Thou shall cover thine own ass at all costs?”

I wouldn’t characterize myself as a liberal in the slightest, but to be honest there’s little to like about the Republicans these days, and this guy exemplifies my issues. Whatever ideals the party stood for, and for many still does, has long since eroded away from the top level leaving a group of rotten politicians whose main job in life is to maintain their positions. Not that this is unusual, mind you, but they have a bad case of it. I think the Republican party needs an enema. Kick out the old guard and get some fresh blood in charge. Not that they’ll do it, but honestly that would be nice.

Patriots

Following the Buffalo Bills’ rather sound defeat at the hands of the Patriots yesterday I’ve gotten quite a earful about various interpretations of sportsmanship and whatnot pertaining to the game and the Patriots in general.

Thinking about it this whole thing reminds me of how the rest of the world must view the US. They’re viewed by most as being on top, but then they’re such a bunch of dickholes about it everybody is just waiting for the inevitable fall. Of course the fact that the team in question is called the Patriots really adds something to the comparission.

Not that I know much about it…I don’t really watch sports much anymore. ;)

Thompson and Limbaugh

I really have to wonder exactly why Fox News keeps letting Jack Thompson talk about his unproven and thus far patently wrong “theories” about video games. This is especially humorous in light of the evidence that shows Cho Seung Hui didn’t play video games. So in other words Jack-ass Thompson starts shooting his mouth off before any evidence is in. Not that it shocks me or anything. I do find it disappointing that Fox News lets him on the air. He does nothing but discredit what little credibility they may have. How about getting back to actually discussing the facts? Wouldn’t that be nice?

I am very happy with Rush Limbaugh’s words on the subject. Not in direct discussion of Thompson, but from the sounds of it one of his devotees. He brings up a very nice point that I unfortunately don’t see enough of in the real news (if there is such a thing these days). I have said the same about pornography for a long time. Yes, rapists and serial killers do love their porn. No question about that. Does the porn make them into rapists and serial killers? Most certainly not! What it says is that said type of person is drawn to said media, not that said media creates said type of person. Anyone who has taken a formal or symbolic logic class would know this, but apparently Jack Thompson hasn’t.

All said I have a love-hate relationship with Rush Limbaugh. Sometimes he says or does things that really just piss me off. He’ll defend people just because they’re on his political side of things and are in power, not because they’re good people or didn’t do anything wrong. He’ll spout off about things that I simply find ludicrous from time to time. On the other hand he does have good things too, like the above. It is nice to get the occasional reminder of the things I liked about conservatism…especially before the neo-cons came around. It isn’t Microsoft’s fault a man went on a killing rampage. It isn’t much of anyone’s fault beyond his own. His decision. I like that a lot. Jack Thompson would have us believe we’re slaves to what we see and have no ability to decide for ourselves what is right and what is wrong. Of course we’ve heard his argument before about pornography. Shit…we heard the same things about Rock and Roll back in the 50’s.

Though I don’t hold political ideals that in any way adhere to what any of the parties would consider to be in their platform, I hold a certain liking to conservatism. I’m not sure why, all said, perhaps at its root it is a bit more down to earth than most. Kind of like Libertarianism, I can understand it because it isn’t talking out of its ass all the time about things that simply don’t exist. Hopefully the neo-cons will disappear some day, religion will get its wallet out of politics, and people will start talking sense again.

Yeah, right.

It must feel good…

It must feel good to be loved, eh George?

Bush protests 1

Bush protests 2

You really have to love how the President successfully took all of the sympathy we had gotten following 9/11 and turned it into the greatest ball of hate toward the US ever seen. Quality work!

But that’s what you get when you start a crusade (and he indeed called it that) against Islam long after you’ve defeated the people who attacked you. One simply has to wonder what he has left to do? Oh wait…contrive a reason to invade Iran while he’s at it. Forgot about that one.
